Porn & Pinot

pinot_noir_1I’ve been thinking about both lately.

Porn is easy to find, heightens your senses, and can be stimulating, but after you have indulged in it you can feel a little bad about yourself. I asked myself why, and I think it’s because porn is fake and it’s an extreme presenting itself as an ordinary reality.  I’m talking about food porn. There are so many gorgeous images on the web and social media of delicious looking unhealthy food. Photos of moist, chewy, homemade bread loaded with butter. Images of multi-layered fudge cakes with chocolate ganache loaded with rosettes of butter cream icing. These shots are fantasies to your senses, perfect photos that inspire you to try to replicate the dish. There are several problems with food porn. First most of us home cooks won’t be able to replicate the appearance of the dish in the photo. Secondly the food is most likely unhealthy which triggers your brain to immediately start craving something unhealthy to eat. I do applaud those who are sharing recipes of healthy food, but most of the food I see on the web is obviously bad for you filled with sugar, bleached flour, salt and fat.

I’m all for beautiful photos of healthy food, and I hope to see more of them on the web.

pinot_noir_2So for all of you that thought my blog topic was for the other type of porn, here is a totally wonderful wine for your next date night, Love Noir. It’s a California wine with generous notes of dark cherry and has a smooth, silky finish. It pairs well with double cream brie on a baguette or sesame ginger glazed salmon. Take a sip and fall in love with the darker side of pinot, I did! It costs between $13 & $16.  I paired it with Trader Joe’s Chocolate Coconut Almonds. A little chocolate in moderation has health benefits and is actually good for you.

Let’s forget about all types of porn and keep our food and love life real, Love Noir can help. 🙂

Cheers – Carrie
