Have you ever had wine & it’s to dry, acidic or bitter?
Here’s how to transform wine in seconds with 1 thing!
Recently I bought a bottle of Oak Leaf Sauvignon Blanc, it basically tasted like watered down grapefruit juice with a touch of battery acid. It was nasty and I didn’t like the taste at all. I could have saved it and used it in a sauce, that’s what I usually do. But instead I did an experiment.
I got three sweeteners:
- Powdered Sugar
- Regular White Sugar
- Stevia
I poured three glasses of wine and added one teaspoon of each sweetener into different glasses. The sweetener that dissolved almost instantly and completely transformed this watery, bitter, grape-fruity wine into a fruity, Vidal Blancish kind of wine was a wonderful surprise to me.
Here are the results:
- The powered sugar had the worst results. The wine immediately turned cloudy and tasted weird.
- The regular table sugar didn’t all dissolve and left grains on the bottom of the glass. It did taste a little better.
- The Stevia dissolved almost immediately and the wine stayed clear. The Stevia also greatly improved the taste of the wine by taming the acidity and making the wine a little bit sweeter with a rounder mouth-feel. Another big plus is that the Stevia contains no additional calories! The wine tasted more like a ripe, sun-kissed grapefruit with just a touch of sweetness.
If you don’t want to sweeten your wine here are some other options:
- When you are cooking veggies you can de-glaze your pan and add complexity to your dish.
- Add it to your crock pot soup or stew recipe.
- Make Red or White Wine Vinegar. Basically leave it on your counter for a couple of week and you will have it!
Bottom line – don’t throw out wine you don’t like, transform it!
