How Peas cause you to lose weight…
I don’t know why some people are turned off by the color green or peas. Maybe it reminds them of bad memories from their childhood, from grabbing green bugs to picking their nose. Or maybe their mother didn’t know how to cook and force-fed them ginormous green peas straight from the freezer or garden and didn’t prepare them properly. Whatever reason, if you don’t like peas, please give them another try. They are fantastic for loosing weight. They taste awesome if fixed correctly with the right ingredients. Peas contain the miracle fat burning substance called protein. If you are trying to lose weight you need to fill up on protein instead of carbs. Carbs raise your insulin levels and your body will store the carbs as triglycerides. You won’t burn any fat/triglycerides until your body goes into starvation mode, Yuck. If you are eating protein, it doesn’t raise insulin and your body is continually burning EVERYTHING, YAY and you get skinny faster!
I love soup when the weather gets cold, especially warm, creamy, Pea soup with ham, topped with Parmesan cheese. I like making it in the crock pot early in the morning so I can go about my day without having to think about what to make for dinner.
Enough said – here is the recipe:
Ingredients 1:
- 1 -16 oz bag of dried peas
- 1 tablespoon of creole seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper
- 3/4 cup diced carrots
- 1 diced onion
- 1/2 tablespoon garlic or 1 mashed clove
- 3 cups of water
- 3 cups of low sodium chicken broth
Ingredients 2:
- 1 cup cooked diced ham
- 3/4 cup sour cream
Topping
- Parmesan cheese
Directions:
- Take all the ingredients #1 and put them into your crock-pot and cook on high for 4 hours or until done. Or low for 8 or so hours till done.
- Take an immersion blender or whatever type of blender you have and blend the soup until smooth.
- Mix in ingredients #2, the pre-cooked ham and sour cream into the soup & wait 10 minutes.
- Serve it with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
The perfect wine to pair with this soup is Chardonnay. I like this Pacific Grove Chardonnay because of its tropical fruit and light vanilla flavor, with just a touch of caramel. It really complements this soup.
