The Goldilocks of Wine.
I went to the Total Wine store yesterday for their free Saturday wine tasting. I’ve been to these before and usually find new wines I like. I don’t blog on every wine I try, only if I find an exceptional one. They were sampling six wines, two whites, one blush and three reds. Only one was amazing, the rest were kind of meh. I’m a big Riesling fan and I love cool, acidic, crisp, fruity wines.
I was a bit disappointed because they weren’t sampling any Rieslings. My first sample was a Prosecco for $11.99, it was ok but nothing to write home about. The next on the list was my favorite. I fell in love at first sip and I was totally amazed to find out it was a Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley of France called Bougrier ‘V’ Vouvray. It is an off-dry white wine with a nose of honey, burnt sugar and a touch of spice costing $19.99. The spectacular aromas were only a teaser of the outstanding taste that followed. The flavors of pears, peaches and hints of hazelnut stood out to me in this medium bodied, zesty fruit bursting wine. From now on I will think of this wine as my “Goldilocks and the three bears wine” because of its combination of crispness and intense fruit flavor. It isn’t too sweet or too dry, it’s just right.
I would pair this wine with pork chops & apples, turkey, and Asian cuisine because it has a sweet sour finish. It also pairs well with brie, gruyere, cream cheese. Serve it cold at 45 degrees to keep it zesty, if it gets too cold you may lose some flavor. If it gets too warm it won’t taste as crisp.
If you want a wine that’s not too dry and not too sweet try this one, because it’s just right.
