This is our Ol’ Faithful. No, it’s not a geothermal phenomenon. It’s the beer everybody, including professional beer judges, just seems to dig. Maybe they like how it’s smooth, medium-bodied, and semi-sweet, while not too heavy or bitter. Maybe it’s the amber color, or the blend of four imported malts balanced by two Germanic hops, or the fact that it takes five weeks to get right. Or maybe it’s all the above.  1 oz $0.50

2. Alter Ego Farmhouse Ale - Saison

This brew is a shout-out to the alter ego in each of us, beckoning it out of dormancy. Porter Hardy, IV, brewery president, left his career as an attorney to heed the call of his weekend passion, making beer. Along with some friends who were just as consumed by beer, he established Smartmouth Brewing Company in 2012. Alter Ego, brewed in the farmhouse style of a Belgian Saison, is an effervescent and refreshing beer with fruity notes, a hint of pepper and a dry finish. Try pairing it with seafood, especially oysters or mussels, smoked sausages or cured meats. It complements aged gouda, chevre and ripe soft cheeses. 1 oz $0.50

3. Brown Ale Brown Ale - American

6% ABV Legend Brewing Company Richmond, VA A full bodied version of a British Brown Ale. Expect a rich, malt-foreward brew with a beautiful mahogony tone. Generous amounts of specialty malts bring flavors of sweet caramel, toasted nuts, coffee, and molasses, all perfectly balanced by a steady but cautious hop dryness. 5. Hazy Like a Fox IPA - New England

6.4% ABV 45 IBU New Realm Brewing Company Atlanta, GA
Hazy Like a Fox, our first Hazy IPA, is Double Dry Hopped with El Dorado and Azacca hops to provide juicy, pineapple and tangerine flavors. Brewed with a blend of pale malt, oats, wheat, flaked barley and lactose, it pours a pale gold with an opaque haze. Pineapple and tangerine hop aromatics dance together in the nose while its taste is very soft with a juicy orange and tangerine finish. With a bit of brewers' magic, we gave this beer a very soft and smooth mouthfeel with low perceived hop bitterness. Hazy Like a Fox was double dry-hopped, once during fermentation to give it huge orange juicy character and again post-fermentation to derive intense hop aromatics. 1 oz $0.55

6. El Guapo Agave IPA IPA - American

7.5% ABV 70 IBU O'Connor Brewing Co. Norfolk, VA
El Guapo — which, translated, means “the handsome one” — looks sexy, smells beautiful, and tastes great! It is a medium-bodied, agave-infused India Pale Ale, with a grassy, citrus nose and notes of sweet caramel, that finishes with a smooth but strong bitterness.  1 oz $0.55

7. Shark Tears Sour - Gose

Our first kettle-soured beer, this Gose is firmly tart before the salt and a hint of frutiness make the beer a refreshing delight! The salt was reduced in house from 20 gallons of sea water brought in by one of our customers. The frutiness comes from chopped rhubarb steeped in the wort as it soured. Look out for more tart beers--we really like this one!  1 oz $0.50

In 2013, we released American Beauty, a collaboration with the Grateful Dead. Dogfish Head and the Grateful Dead both built their followings by connecting directly with their fans, so we asked those loyal fans to help drive the beer’s recipe. After more than 1,500 ingredient suggestions, granola came out on top! This year, American Beauty is back for an encore! Clocking in at 6.5% ABV (to mark the year the Grateful Dead was formed, 1965), this psychedelic pale ale is brewed with granola and succulent wildflower honey, and boasts malty and sweet notes of honey, toasted grain and citrus. Imagine you set sail for a three hour tour. Let's say from the port of Escondido (work with us here). The weather started getting rough. You're tiny ship (but not lunch, thankfully) was tossed. Long story short: You're marooned on a remote island somewhere near the Tropic of Thunder. The good news is that the Capt. Of the S.S. Stone and her brewing kit were among the small cast of colorful characters that survived the rough voyage with you. Mainstays Citra & Mosaic along with newcomer Cashmere hops are joined by their juicy tropical aromas of citrus, pineapple and coconut (try stringing all that together in a catchy tune).
