Virginia Beach is a popular vacation destination because of its proximity to so many amazing places. One of the most exciting ways to explore this section of the country is to visit nearby rock-climbing destinations. If you enjoy cliffs and crack climbing, then Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park is the perfect place for you, as the mountain tops out at 3268 ft. It is a popular destination for hiking, as well as rock climbing a little over three hours from Virginia Beach. There are more than 100 established routes on Old Rag Mountain, meaning you will be able to enjoy a climb here regardless of your skill level. Plan an Excursion to Hidden Rocks in the George Washington National Forest

Hidden Rocks is a top destination in the George Washington National Forest. Located in Rockingham County, this popular climbing location has many opportunities for traditional climbing, as well as bouldering. The scenery and fun climbs make it well worth the three and a half hour drive from Virginia Beach. There are climbing opportunities only a short hike from parking and other facilities.

The cliffs here are made of sandstone, and many of them are up to 40 feet high. This climbing location is a great place to test your skills without worrying about extreme elevations. It may even be a family-friendly destination, provided you are patient and use safety best practices with younger climbers.
