2019 Holiday Lights at Virginia Beach

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas

When I saw on Facebook that there was a free Bike the Boardwalk Holiday Lights event last night (Nov. 24th) I knew I wanted to go. I loved the thought of decorating my bike with lights and joining the large group of folks of every age roiling under the bright flashing lights.  Because of a chance of rain I decided to wimp out and not decorate my bike, but the weather held and Mike and I decided to walk down to the oceanfront and walk or should I say dodge  around the bicyclists.

There were some really great bikes decorated with bows, huge Christmas presents, garland, and lights of every color. Everyone was in great spirits, folks were dressed as Santa, Elves and decked out in all sorts of holiday gear! Cell phones were turned on high blasting Silver Bells, and Here Comes Santa Clause.  I was no exception, I had Pandora tuned to a Christmas station with the volume up.  In addition to music bringing a festive mood to the walk, for me it was a safety beacon to help keep me from getting run over.

This bike event has been going on for over 20 years.  Walking the boardwalk with the Holiday lights has become one of mine and Mike's Christmas traditions. There is something magical about walking or biking the brightly lighted boardwalk while breathing the cool, crisp air, listening to Christmas music, hearing children laughing, feeling the love of families, seeing young couples holding hands, it starts the Christmas season for me.

It really is a different experience seeing the lights in the day verses the night. Check out Santa during the night verses day.
